PA legislators must address gun violence crisis
Less than a week after President Biden ordered flags at government buildings to be lowered to half-staff to honor the eight victims of the horrific attack in Atlanta, he had to do so again on Tuesday to mark the senseless death of 10 more Americans in another incident of gun-related violence in Boulder, Colorado. The carnage must stop. We must work at all levels of government to enact common-sense reforms that will attempt to address the crisis of gun violence in the United States. In Pennsylvania, the General Assembly is considering three pieces of legislation: SB 88/HB 235 would close the background check loophole for the private sale of long guns, including military-style semi-automatic assault weapons SB 134 would create Extreme Risk Protection Orders to take guns out of the hands of the people likely to commit suicide SB 217/HB 980 would require gun owners to report lost or stolen guns While far from a comprehensive solution, these pieces of legislation would be at least a start. We can't afford to wait until lives of more innocent Pennsylvanians are lost to senseless gun violence. Contact your state Senator and Representative TODAY to urge them to co-sponsor these bills and push for their passage in the legislature.
